My photographs are a pursuit of instinct, in connection to the world around me. Iām drawn to the delicate details of the desert landscape, how shadow can mirror the shape of a cactus, how light can appear to echo from a figure, and how a simple organic form can be reconstructed. For me, shadows are as physically palpable as people or objects.
I seek out sites that have a lingering or residual energy; my efforts come out of a spiritual space, the suggestion or foreshadowing of something more connective of the subjects within the landscape. From a cocoon of tree branches and vines, or an overgrown trail quilted with rays of light, these images linger in my memory like I was experiencing them as a child full of curiosity.
Many times I am reacting to the energy of the setting, in an effort to record my emotional response to its condition. These endeavors have resulted in a series of work, documenting not only the spirit of the Sonoran Desert, but the changing cycle of life within it as well.
